The Story Behind This Piece:

These two enchanting miniature teapots were discovered paired together deep within the kura (earthen storehouse) of a 100-year-old traditional folk house in the mountains of Hiroshima Prefecture. The period of creation is estimated to be from the early to mid-Showa Era (approx. 1930s–1960s).
The former owner of this kominka (old Japanese house) was a gentleman who deeply cherished both bonsai and Sencha (Japanese green tea). These were his treasures, used to embody a quiet, elegant life where he enjoyed a peaceful cup of tea while tending to his small bonsai on the porch.
The reddish-brown, iron kettle-style teapot features the solid arare (hailstone) pattern, likely displayed as an ornament reflecting the powerful, Mingei (folk craft) charm of his bonsai. The yellow-ochre ceramic teapot, showing the warm traces of the artisan's hand, may have symbolized the peaceful time he spent with his family.
As the master aged, these small implements became more than just decorations; they were cherished as objects embodying "the family history and the master's beloved spirit." With the hope that "the peaceful days when these tiny teapots were once again displayed would return," they were carefully stored deep in the dry kura, waiting patiently for their time.
This pair is now emerging, kuradashi (released from the storehouse), following the organization of the kura due to the dismantling of the old house, acting as small witnesses to the master’s ethos: "to value old things and find beauty in daily life."
Today, the value of these miniature teapots lies in the wabi-sabi aesthetic embodied by the rustic texture of the clay and the unadorned form, and in their Mingei value, which conveys the warmth of the artisan's handiwork. They are now waiting to be held once again in a new time, perfect as an accompaniment to a bonsai display or as miniature tea ceremony tools to create a tranquil interior space.

Each item is carefully packed with protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
